Strong Neighborhoods, Strong Schools: Appendix: Case Studies

The appendix brings together the five case studies of community organizing groups carried out as part of the Indicators Project on Education Organizing. Each report describes the background and context of the organization’s work and then looks at selected organizing ‘stories’ and accomplishments in relation to four of the eight indicator areas. (All of the groups did have achievements in each of the eight indicator areas; the authors chose four areas which served well to highlight the group’s contributions). Collectively, the case studies illustrate the variety of contexts and strategies encountered in community organizing for school reform; they also show how the Indicators Framework can provide a unifying tool for identifying and characterizing the accomplishments of community organizing groups.
