This report to EducationWorks on the National School and Community Corps presents an analysis of how corpsmembers’ service experience affected their attitudes about civic responsibility and self, their learning and development, and their future plans. The report also examines corpsmembers’ perceptions of the impact of their service on children and schools. Data was collected through a survey and two attitude inventories, all administered at the end of members’ terms of service. Findings show that corpsmembers found their service to be a powerful and positive experience in their lives. They indicate that their service experience supported significant personal growth and learning, and also provided them with a strong sense of contributing to youth and society. Corpsmembers also believe that their work was beneficial for students, educators, and schools as a whole.
