Doing Eve’s Work: Women Principals Write About Their Practice

This article was written by an educational ethnographer and five middle-school principals who met regularly to discuss journal entries about their professional practice. In the article, each principal shares excerpts from her journal and reflects on the dilemmas raised for her as a female school administrator. The ethnographer then examines connections between the work of principals and of educational ethnographers, noting that the writings presented reveal issues of power and authority, which feminists in both fields have highlighted.
