Lessons Learned about Parent Organizing: A Case Study

This report is about a case study of a Philadelphia elementary school in which parent organizing was supported by a local education fund (LEF), The Philadelphia Education Fund. The case study reveals the hard work and commitment that it takes for an LEF to become authentically engaged in working with parents to increase their participation in schools. It also shows the resistance that parents often meet when they try to become more involved. The case study describes some of the successes parent organizers had while showing the depth of resources and support that a local education fund must provide in order to successfully in organizing at the school level. It offers lessons learned based on findings in regard to the implications for parent organizing and local education funds.
