Marvin Barnes joined Research for Action in 2012 as a Research Assistant and was promoted to Research Analyst in 2016. He received his Bachelor of the Arts degree from Temple University in Sociology while completing a one year internship with RFA. During his academic studies, he also supported international students in transitioning to the University through the Intensive English Language Program. Currently, Marvin does quantitative work for two studies related to postsecondary access and success (Gates PSE, STEP) as well as two mixed-methods evaluation projects (Gates Scale-Up, 21st Century). For these projects he has various responsibilities that include database management, data cleaning, and survey research. Having attended middle and high school in Philadelphia public schools, Marvin has a particular interest in broadening local pathways for disadvantaged youth from the public school system to postsecondary institutions.
