About David Bamat

Dr. David Bamat currently serves as a lead researcher for the Philadelphia Education Research Consortium (PERC), a research partnership between Research for Action and the School District of Philadelphia, which conducts research studies examining high school outcomes in Philadelphia and how schools, families, and the community can help students succeed.

He is also a lead researcher on the Education Innovation and Research (EIR) funded Children’s Literacy Initiative: Integrating Curriculum Development & Professional Development for Kindergarten Readiness, a five-year randomized study of a comprehensive preschool curriculum and pre-k teacher professional development program.

Bamat is quantitative research methodologist with content background in the sociology of education. Bamat has over eight years of experience conducting education research and evaluation, as well as three years of experience as a high school and middle school teacher of Spanish and French. His research and evaluation experience is characterized by work in early childhood education and mathematics instruction for English learners. His recent research involves developing and using statistical models to estimate the mean achievement of subpopulations of students when sample size does not permit reliable direct estimation. He is particularly interested in using large scale assessment data to identify schools and school systems that are consistently exceeding expectations in supporting the learning and achievement of different subgroups of students, especially underserved and underperforming subgroups.
