Pierre du Plessis graduated from George Washington University in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology. Pierre is interested in issues related to social justice and the processes of global change. Originally from Botswana, he wrote his thesis about the displacement of indigenous peoples in the Central Kalahari. His thesis was written after conducting fieldwork in a newly established village of displaced people. He also worked as a legal consultant for the negotiating team of the indigenous group making its land claim. Pierre is developing and refining his skills in ethnographic research while learning about and contributing to educational research with Research for Action. He is currently working on teams evaluating an initiative that has introduced instructional coaches at the high school level to improve classroom instruction, and a program that partners mathematics and science graduate students with middle school teachers to plan lessons and activities in order to integrate math and science in the classroom.
